St Albans City & District Council has undertaken a review of its grants process to ensure it is aligned to the Council's Priorities; helps deliver the Inclusion Strategy and has the greatest impact on the community in terms of outcomes. Following the review the Council has launched a new Community Grants Fund that will be piloted from October 2011 - June 2012 and a new Strategic Commissioning Fund that will run from April 2012 - March 2015.
St Albans City & District Community Grants Fund – 2011/12
The Community Grants Fund aims to provide Voluntary and Community Sector groups a flexible funding opportunity to support the delivery of projects and activities that benefit the local community.
The Fund was launched on Wednesday 21 September - 31 October 2011 and considered applications between £500 and £5000, which were assessed and scored against the criteria set out in the application guidance.
Decisions made in early November approved 21 projects, allocating approximately £60k. Further information around the successful projects can be found in the summary document below.
The 2012/13 Community Grants fund will open in mid March to support the delivery of projects between July 2012 - March 2013. Details of how to apply will appear here.
St Albans City & District Strategic Commissioning Fund - 2012-15
The Strategic Commissioning Fund was set up to provide funding to a small number (fewer than 10) of voluntary and community sector organisations who offer services that are considered to be strategically important to the District by providing support to the most vunerable communities.
The Fund was launched on Thursday 29 September - Friday 11 November 2011 and received 19 applications from 16 local organisations.
A provision decision on funding was taken by the Council's Grants Panel on Tuesday 29 November 2011. Formal notification of successful applicants will be made in February 2012 following budget approval at the Full Council meeting.
Further details to follow.
Partnership with the Centre for Voluntary Service
The Council funds the Centre for Voluntary Service to assist with providing information and guidance concerning a wide range of grant funding available to local voluntary and community groups (not grants for individuals). For this reason, we recommend all groups seeking funding to speak to the CVS.
