Household refuse is collected on the alternative week to your green wheeled bin and boxes as part of the 'twin bin' system.
Refuse collection
The refuse collection service is contracted to Enterprise until 2015; they were awarded a new seven year contract that started on 4th February 2008.
All the household refuse is taken to the waste transfer station at Garston, it is then transferred into bulk containers for delivery to landfill in Bedfordshire.
During July 2009, those properties not suitable for wheeled bins are being issued with purple refuse bags to replace the black ones currently used, there will be a limit of 4 sacks collected per fortnight, the same capacity as the 240 litre wheeled bin used by a majority of households.
Refuse service
Residents must place their wheeled bin/purple bags at the boundary of their property on collection day by 7am.
No excess waste will be collected, please ensure all your refuse is in the black wheeled bin/purple sacks provided.
Those residents, because of age or disability, who cannot move their refuse to the boundary are asked to contact us on 01727 819285 to ask for an assisted collection.
Families with six or more full time permanent residents or those with two or more children in disposable nappies can apply for extra capacity.
Flats
The refuse collection service to flats is weekly. It is the Council’s intention to change all flats currently on sack collections to wheeled bins as soon as is practicable.
