To run a market stall you must first obtain a daily consent from St Albans City & District Council.

St Albans Charter Market daily letting of available pitches

The consents granted allow a trader to use one of our prefabricated market stalls on an occasional basis, one day at a time.

A long term trader is granted a permanent daily let, allowing them the opportunity to trade on the same pitch at every market.

  • Permanent daily let pitches unoccupied on the day are let to new and short term traders.

  • Consents are issued on the day of the market, with no pre-booking of stalls.

  • New and short term traders are allocated pitches on the day of the market.  Priority is given  according to the length of time a trader has been active on the market.

  • Traders of perishable products (food, plants etc.,) are granted a permanent daily let allocated from a waiting list.  You can make an application to apply for a place on the waiting list.

Guidelines for applications for other market stalls (i.e perishable product stalls and farmers market stalls), together with regulations, rules, and general information, are provided below.
