Council Procurement Strategy

This Procurement Strategy sets out the framework and guiding principles to be followed by all staff involved in procurement of goods, services and works.

Sustainable Procurement

Sustainable purchasing is about minimising the environmental and social impact of the purchases we make. It is simply good procurement practice that takes into account environmental, economic and social issues to ensure that human needs and a good quality of life can be ensured both now and in the future.

Collectively local authorities are one of the largest consumers of goods and services in the UK. St Albans City and District Council is committed to ensuring that all procurement activities are undertaken in an environmentally responsible manner and that any unavoidable impacts are minimised where reasonably practicable.

The Councils Sustainable Procurement Policy sets out in further detail our commitments and lays out the principles that should be considered by all employees and suppliers throughout the process of procuring goods and services.

Contractor Greenhouse Gas Reporting

The Council may require contractors and suppliers to provide information on annual energy and fuel consumption. This data is necessary to fulfil the annual greenhouse gas reporting requirements set out by the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
