It is a fact of life that we all make noise: whether we are talking to others, playing music, entertaining, driving in our cars or just going about our daily business. What is a noise to one person may be pleasurable to another. But too much noise can reduce people's quality of life and, in some extreme cases, even destroy it entirely.

If you are bothered by noise talking to the person responsible is often the quickest way to deal with your complaint; if they are children or young adults approach their parents.

If you don't want to do that, or the situation stays the same, we will investigate to assess the noise if it is causing a Statutory Nuisance. The Council has no legal powers to deal with the complaint if it is not a statutory nuisance, we can only attempt to deal with the matter informally.

Further information on what you can do about noise is available in the leaflet "Bothered by Noise" published by DEFRA.
