Employment Agencies

To assist with finding either permanent or temporary employment, you may wish to register with an employment agency. If you have a Disability

Jobcentre Advisers can offer extra help to people with disabilities seeking work. Further information on specialist services for disabled people can be found on the Jobcentre website.

If you are on health related benefits, the government has introduced New Deal for Disabled People, helping sick or disabled people who want to find work. Visit the New Deal website for further info.

There are a number of benefits available for people with disabilities, including the Disability Living Allowance (DLA), War Disablement Pensions, Statutory Sick Pay, and Incapacity Benefit.

Jobcentre

Your local Jobcentre holds information about a large number of jobs in the local area as well as giving help and advice when looking for a job. Find your local Job Centre.

Alternatively you can view the JobCentre Plus website with hundreds of local jobs on-line.

P45

If you are changing job, it's important to make sure you get a P45 form from your current employer to bring to your new employer. This should ensure you don't end up paying too much tax or if you have overpaid, it is refunded quickly. For further information on P45's, click see the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) website.

Tax and Money Matters

When you are working you are expected to pay Income Tax and National Insurance. For further information on Income Tax and Pay As You Earn (PAYE) please visit the HM Revenue and Customs Website.

If you earn money from other sources or are self-employed, you may need to fill in a Self-Assessment form once a year. You can do this on-line on the Inland Revenue website.

Trade Unions

Trade unions provide a range of services to their members, and discuss issues like pay, training and working conditions with employers. You have the right to join a trade union of your choice. Further information on unions can be found on the TUC website.
