The famous St Albans annual pancake race sponsored by McDougalls will take place on Shrove Tuesday, 16th February, 2010. The race will start at 12.00pm in the market place outside the Town Hall, so dig out the frying pans and trainers and start practicing your sprinting and flipping technique.
Charles Baker, Tourism and Regeneration Manager commented: “Last year's race was full of energetic competition and rivalry. Billy’s Bar and Restaurant in Harpenden triumphed after the District Council's planning team was disqualified for not flipping their pancake correctly. No doubt this year’s race will be equally dramatic with the planning boys seeking revenge! Or will the Abbey clergy’s team make a come back and win back the silverware which they haven’t won for three years!”
Get some publicity for your organisation, whilst keeping fit and having fun. If you or your organisation fancy your chances of winning the prestigious frying pan award and having your team name engraved on it for all to see, all you need is a team of four people who can run, toss a pancake, and catch it in their frying pan. Comical team names, fancy dress or corporate colours are always welcome, but by no means obligatory.
To register your team, please contact the Tourist and Information Centre on 01727 864511 or email: tic@stalbans.gov.uk by 15th February 2010.
This year’s event will once again be sponsored by McDougalls, part of Premier Foods, based at the bottom of Holywell Hill in St Albans.
