News release: 08 July 2010

The Secretary of State has considered the Planning Inspector’s report on the planning appeal lodged by Helioslough, against St Albans City and District Council’s refusal to allow planning permission for a Rail Freight Terminal in July 2009. The appeal began 24 November 2009 and ended 18 December 2009.

The Council recognises the public concern on this issue.

The decision announced 8 July is to refuse the appeal. Heather Cheesbrough, Head of Planning and Building Control at St Albans City and District Council commented: “We are delighted with the decision, which recognises that the proposed development was inappropriate in this Green Belt location."
