Young Enterprise Awards

Eight Young Enterprise companies from local schools in Harpenden and St Albans took part in the Young Enterprise competition, which was held at Rothamsted Conference Centre in Harpenden.

Young Enterprise companies were submitted from: St Albans High School for Girls, Sandringham, Beaumont, St Georges V.A., Loreto College and St Albans Girl’s School. They were welcomed and praised by Robert Landau, a member of the local board. All Young Enterprise companies were superb and were congratulated; the winners were seen as exceptional.

At the event, which was sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers, prizes were presented by The Mayor of St Albans City and District, Cllr Chris Oxley and the Deputy Mayor of Harpenden, Cllr Daniel Chichester Miles.

The following category winners were:-

• Alpha from St Albans High School for Girls won the best report.
• Raw Couture from Loreto College won best presentation.
• Silver Inc from St Albans Girls’ School won best trade stand.
• Catalyst from Sandringham School won best product or service.

Overall winners were Raw Couture from Loreto College and Mundo from Beaumont School and they will go forward to the county final on 14th June at the University of Hertfordshire.

Mike Elliott, chair of Young Enterprise in St Albans & Harpenden said, “Our annual competition shows just what young people can achieve when given the opportunity and encouragement and support from teachers and volunteer business advisors.”

After presenting the awards The Mayor took the opportunity to add his congratulations and cited an example of a former Young Enterprise company member who now runs a successful local company. This success is a clear example of the major benefits to local young people with entrepreneurial spirit, showing how they can successfully progress from school into the business world. He concluded by thanking all the Young Enterprise companies, the organisers, the teachers and the business advisors, who shared their knowledge and skills and gave a significant amount of their own spare time, because they recognise what a great group of young people we have in our local schools and how hard they work to contribute to our local society.
