The Mayor Cllr Aislinn Lee invites you to join her and the Deputy Mayor Cllr Geoff Harrison for traditional Christmas carols outside the Alban Arena on Sunday 18 December from 4pm until approximately 4.45pm.

The event will be run jointly with Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care who will be inviting people to take time out of the busy build up to Christmas to “Light Up a Life” to remember friends or loved ones who are no longer with us.  All the funds collected will go to the hospice.

The Mayor, Cllr Aislinn Lee commented: "I do hope that many of you will take a break from your Christmas shopping to come and join us. Everyone is welcome, whatever your age or singing ability. We will be “Lighting up a Life” – small candles with holders will be given out for all to light and hold whilst a moving poem* about remembering loved ones is read and carols are sung.

“Everyone who braves the cold to join us raising money for the hospice will be treated to hot coffee and mince pies, which will be served afterwards in the Council Chamber at the District Council Offices.”

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be joined by The Very Reverend Dr Jeffrey John, Dean of St Albans; the Mayor’s Chaplain Father Tim Edgar of St Bartholomew’s Church, St Albans accompanied by St Albans City Band. The Choral Society will also be attending.

Cllr Aislinn Lee, The Right Worshipful the Mayor of St Albans City & District.

Private Thoughts
By Bridget Hammond

The days, the months, the years go by,
But thoughts of you remain.

The private ones that I shall keep,
That no one else can claim.

I’ll light a light for you my friend,
A symbol of my thoughts,
So you will know though life goes on,
Past memories are sought.

I’ll light a light for you my love,
Devotion held so dear,
Although I know you’re far away,
You sometimes seem so near.

I’ll light a light for you my child,
To signify my pride,
For sharing precious times with you,

When we were side by side.

I’d like to light a light for all to see,
That shows the importance of your life to me,
And as I do my private thoughts that no one else can claim,
Will take us through the days, the months,
the years that will remain.
