More than a hundred students from Loreto College, St Albans have put their artistic skills to the test in a competition to design the Mayor’s Christmas cards.

The four winners were given a preview of the cards when they visited Councillor Aislinn Lee, the Mayor of St Albans City and District, on 13 December 2011.

Students at the college in Hatfield Road were invited by the Mayor to create nativity scenes for the competition. The winning artworks were selected after a judging process involving the Mayor and each will form the front or back of one of two Christmas cards.

Councillor Aislinn Lee, the Mayor of St Albans City and District, said: “I would like to thank all the students for their hard work in creating beautiful nativity scenes for the competition. The standard of artwork was amazing and I found it extremely hard to select four winning pieces as there was so much choice.”

Many of the entries will be on display in the reception area of the St Albans City and District Council’s offices at the Civic Centre, St Peter’s Street, St Albans until the New Year.
