
The Mayor of St Albans City and District, Cllr Aislinn Lee invites you to join her at the Remembrance Day Parade and Service in St Albans in memory of all the men and women who gave their lives defending our country and our freedom.

The Mayor Cllr Aislinn Lee commented: “I hope as many of you as possible will join me at the service in St Peter’s Street on Sunday 13 November ‘lest we forget’. We all owe a debt of gratitude to the families affected and devastated in the name of war, to those who have given their lives for their country and to those who continue to do so.”
The Mayor will attend the service at the War Memorial in St Peter’s Street, St Albans, which will take place on Sunday 13 November at 10.50am. The Mayor and the Macebearer (in official robes), will gather outside Marks and Spencer in St Peter’s Street from 10.25am, with members of the Corporation, councillors and aldermen, representatives from many different faiths and the parishes, contingents from air, sea and army cadets, guiding and scout movements plus others from various uniformed services. They will set off at 10.40am and lead the procession to the war memorial near St Peter’s Church. The Reverend Anne Hollinghurst, Vicar at St Peter’s will conduct the Remembrance Service, which should last until approximately 30 minutes.

During the Service there will be contributions from the St Albans United Synagogue, St Albans Islamic Centre and representatives from the Roman Catholic Church and the Free Churches. After prayers and an opening hymn, the Act of Remembrance will be signalled by the sounding of the Last Post and the Standards will be dipped at 11.00am. The Chairman of the St Albans Branch of the Royal British Legion will then declaim the Exhortation. A member of the St Albans Burma Star Association will speak the Kohima Epitaph. “Reveille” will be sounded and the Standards raised. During the wreath laying ceremony St Peter’s choir will sing anthems. After the National Anthem, the Mayor and Council will lead the procession to a saluting position on St Peter’s Street.
The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Geoff Harrison will attend the Harpenden Garden of Remembrance Service on 8 November for the planting of small crosses. The service will be held at 8pm on Church Green, Harpenden.
The Deputy Mayor will also be attending the Remembrance Day Service on Sunday 13 November. The service will be held at the Memorial Cross, Church Green, Harpenden commencing at 10.50am and will be conducted by Reverend Christopher Futcher from St Nicholas Church. The Harpenden Town Mayor, Cllr Michael Weaver, Past Town Mayors, Honorary Townsmen, Honorary Aldermen, Award of Merit Holders and Town Councillors will join the Harpenden Branch of the Royal British Legion for the procession, starting at the Royal British Legion Headquarters in Leyton Road at 10.40am for the service.
The Deputy Mayor Councillor Geoff Harrison commented: “I would be pleased to see as many people as possible joining us in Harpenden for the two events.”
On Friday 11 November at 11am:-
• The Mayor will join Veterans and other representatives who will be present at the war memorial in St Peter’s Street at 11am to acknowledge the two minute silence. Please feel free to join them and pay your respects.
• A bell will ring in the District Council’s Civic Office reception area to mark the start and end of the two minute silence. There will be signs to let customers know that this will happen and a message on the incoming lines for the Telephone Contact Centre to advise callers that we will be marking the start and end of the two minutes silence.
