The Mayor of St Albans City and District, will support Armed Forces Day by attending a Civic Ceremony on 30 June at St Mary’s Church, Marshalswick, St Albans.
Cllr Eileen Harris, the Mayor, said: "Armed Forces Day gives us the chance to show our gratitude to members of the army, navy, and airforce serving around the world. They do very challenging work and are often far from home. It's very important to use an occasion like Armed Forces Day to show that we are supporting them on behalf of the country."
Armed Forces Day is an annual event that shows support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community. This community ranges from serving troops to service families, and from veterans to cadets.
St Mary’s Church at Sherwood Avenue will mark the day with prayers at 10.30am, followed by a civic service at 2.30pm at the memorial in front of the church. The service will give thanks and remember those injured or killed in recent conflicts. The church will remain open all day for prayer and quiet contemplation.
This is one of many events taking place across the UK and around the world to honour service men and women. The day is remembered by all the services, from the army in Afghanistan to HMS Dauntless off the coast of Africa and the RAF in the Falklands.
