£5,500 was raised for St Albans and Hertsmere Women's Refuge at a fashion show attended by Cllr Eileen Harris, Mayor of St Albans City and District. More than 200 people came to the evening event on 11 October, held at the Verulam Golf Club in St Albans.
The 12 models on the catwalk included six staff from the women’s refuge. The Dressing Room in St Albans lent a range of clothes, from casual to party styles, for the fashion show.
The event included a fundraising raffle and silent auction where bids are submitted on paper and the highest bid is successful. The prizes were donated by many generous sponsors and included:
- A jump suit and memorabilia from the Red Arrows,
- A holiday in Cyprus, and a
- £300 shopping experience at the Dressing Room.
Cllr Eileen Harris, Mayor of St Albans City and District, said: “It was an honour and a privilege to attend this fashion show. It was a most enjoyable evening for a very worthwhile cause. I would like to thank all those who support this wonderful organisation so generously with their time and money.”
Maralyn Pollard, Chair of the Trustees and Management Committee of St Albans and Hertsmere Women's Refuge, said: “On behalf of the Trustees, I would like to say that we are delighted with the success of this evening. I want to thank the Dressing Room for being absolutely brilliant. I would also like to thank all the guests, and the models who have given up their time so generously. All the money raised tonight will be used to help the women and children in repairing the damage they’ve suffered.”
