The Mayor of St Albans joined thousands of people across the UK in “The World's Biggest Coffee Morning” for Macmillan Cancer Support on 28 September.
£887 was raised by the coffee morning that was organised by St Albans and District Macmillan Cancer Support Committee and supported by the Mayor. The event took place in Greenwood Park Community Centre, in Chiswell Green.
Cllr Eileen Harris, Mayor of St Albans City and District, said: “It was a privilege to meet the loyal supporters of Macmillan Cancer Support today. It has also been very enjoyable to join this coffee morning for such a great cause. This is the 22nd year of ‘the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ and I hope it will raise even more than the £10m raised last year.”
Avril Foster, chair of the committee, said: “Our committee members and loyal supporters have taken part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for a number of years. The wonderful support of the local community and the generosity of our local shops and stores means we have no overheads to pay. Without such generosity we would not be able to hold fundraising events to help those who are diagnosed and living with cancer. We are proud that we can say that every penny donated goes to help the many people who are diagnosed and living with cancer."
