Daniel Goodwin, Chief Executive of St Albans City & District Council, will be leaving his job to take up a senior role at the Local Government Association in London.
Daniel, who has been at the Council since July 2006, said: “I have accepted an offer of a new role of Executive Director (Finance and Policy) at the Local Government Association. This is a brilliant opportunity which is too good to miss. It will put me right at the heart of Local Government at a time when challenges to it have never been greater. I look forward to taking up this exciting national role helping councils to plan their future finances and policies.
“I have been with St Albans City & District Council for over six years. During that time I have achieved what I set out to do and many things that I did not quite expect! I leave behind a great team of people and an organisation which is well prepared to face future challenges. I have been continually impressed by the quality of the staff, councillors, partner organisations and the wider community. Leaving will be a huge wrench, but it is better to say goodbye a little too early than a minute too late. Now is the right time for a successor to bring a fresh approach for the future. I will always think of the District and the Council with affection and look forward to its future continued success.”
Councillor Julian Daly, Executive Leader of the Council said: “At a time of great change for local government, Daniel has done a good job for the people of St Albans and the district. He has been offered a fascinating chance to further his career and to make a real difference on the national stage. He leaves with our thanks and good wishes for the future. I am sorry to see him go and hope he will keep in contact with the District.”
