News release: 23 January 2012

The St Albans City and District Community Safety Partnership would like to hear from local residents about what it can do to make the St Albans City and District safer so that it can set priorities for 2012/13.

St Albans City and District Community Safety Partnership,

The Community Safety Partnership, which includes St Albans City and District Council and a number of partner agencies, has been set up to reduce crime and disorder across the District.

Each year we consult with the public and local groups on our plans and priorities for the coming year. This is an opportunity for residents to let us know how they think we can reduce crime and disorder and whether our priorities are correct.

In 2012/13, the Community Safety Partnership aims to build a safer District by addressing these six priorities:

• Reducing crime
• Protecting vulnerable people
• Reducing anti-social behaviour
• Educating on drugs and alcohol misuse
• Managing offenders
• Promoting reassurance and engagement

The short questionnaire about these priorities is available for residents to complete on the Council’s website.

If residents prefer, a paper questionnaire and pre-paid reply envelope is available on request from Carol Almond on 01727 819538.

The closing date for all responses is Friday, 2nd March 2012.

Cllr Beric Read, Portfolio Holder for Community Engagement and Localism at St Albans City and District Council, said: “The District is already a safe place and crime is on the decline. However, the Community Safety Partnership is working to make it even safer and we need the input of residents to help us achieve this aim. So please complete the questionnaire and let us hear your views.”

Crime in the District was down 9.6% for April 2011 to November 2011, when compared to the same period the year before.

Feedback from the consultation will be used by the Community Safety Partnership to develop a plan for the year ahead to help tackle crime and disorder across the District in order to build a safer St Albans. The plan will form part of local and county-wide strategies on reducing crime and disorder and will also reflect the priorities of the St Albans and District Strategic Partnership’s Sustainable Community Strategy.
