The local community is invited to give views on plans for a new leisure facility to be built on Cotlandswick Open Space at an exhibition in London Colney from 30 May.
The public exhibition is being organised by St Albans City and District Council in conjunction with our development partner DC Leisure Management Ltd (DCLM).
It will take place:
• on Wednesday 30 May at Cotlandswick Residents’ Association Hut on the Cotlandswick Estate, London Colney from 3pm to 8pm.
• on Thursday 31 May at Cotlandswick Residents’ Association Hut on the Cotlandswick Estate, London Colney from 4pm to 9pm.
• throughout June in the reception area at the London Colney Recreation Centre, Perham Way, London Colney.
The exhibition contains details of the following:
• site plan and internal layouts,
• a computerised film to help visualise the new development on site,
• artist impressions of the facility,
• car park details,
• opening hours,
• play area location,
• an activity programme and indicative pricing schedules, and
• a timeline of the development process through to opening.

Proposed leisure faciities at the new leisure centre include a 60 station gym, an exercise studio, a single court hall, eight five a-side and one seven-a-side synthetic turf pitches offering all year round football facilities. Both the sports hall and exercise studio have been designed as flexible spaces offering maximum opportunities for community use.
The existing children’s play area will also be relocated on the open space, in consultation with the local community. About 50% of the site will remain as green open space.
Councillor Mike Wakely, Portfolio Holder for Sports, Leisure and Heritage
St Albans City and District Council, said: “Come along to the exhibition and find out about the leisure facilities that are being planned for Cotlandswick. We want to hear your views on what is being proposed.”
People will have the opportunity to speak with the council officer managing the project and representatives from DCLM at the events at the Cotlandswick Residents’ Association Hut. The exhibition will include the current design proposals that are the subject of ongoing technical studies to assess highway matters, landscaping proposals, lighting and noise mitigation.
Comment forms will be available for completion at each event for residents to provide instant feedback or to take away to complete and to post to Bidwells Planning Team, Bidwells, John Ormond House, 899 Silbury Boulevard, Milton Keynes, MK93XJ. Comments can also be emailed to: cotlandswickleisure@bidwells.co.uk.
All responses are being directed to Bidwells, planning consultants for the Council’s development partner, to consider as part of the design process. They will also form part of the Statement of Community Involvement that will be included in DCLM’s planning application.
The Cotlandswick Residents’ Association will also be discussing the project at a meeting on 28 May 2012 at 7pm when a council officer and representatives from DCLM will update the association’s members on the development.
