The latest milestone has been reached for the new Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre. The management contract was signed between St Albans City & District Council and Sports and Leisure Management Limited (SLM) on Friday 7 September.
Councillor Mike Wakely, Portfolio Holder for Sports, Leisure and Heritage for the Council said: “Signing the management contract today moves us another step forward in this big infrastructure project. Despite a number of issues with our power suppliers, Power On, we are on track to open the new leisure centre in November. Residents and visitors can look forward to enjoying the great new facilities.”
SLM, which operates under the Everyone Active brand, operates nearly 80 facilities for twenty four local authorities, including East Herts District Council and Watford Borough Council.
Duncan Jefford, Regional Business Director for Everyone Active, said: “These are exciting times for Everyone Active in St Albans. We have already started the recruitment process for the new Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre and the prospects for the local people of St Albans and the surrounding areas are great. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved in this new facility.”
The leisure centre project is costing the Council approximately £25m. It will include:
• 25m x 10 lane main pool with 50% moveable floor
