Who can claim Council Tax Benefit?

Council Tax Benefit is a 'means tested' benefit, so it is based on your income, your savings and the circumstances of you and your household. I can reduce the amount of Council Tax which you are liable to pay, and it can mean that you end up paying no Council Tax at all!

You will not normally qualify for benefit if you (and, if applicable, your partner) have combined savings or investments of more than £16,000. However, if you are in receipt of Guaranteed Pension Credit then you may qualify for Council Tax Benefit even if you having savings in excess of £16,000.

To find out whether you may be entitled to Housing or Council Tax Benefit, you can use our simple on-line benefit calculator by clicking on the link below.
