The council has 58 Councillors representing our 20 Wards; the councillors stand for election on a party political manifesto and gain their seat on a 'first past the post' voting system.

Composition of elected members

The political parties and number of their representatives in St Albans Council are:

  • Liberal Democrats (30)

  • Conservative (24)

  • Labour (3)

  • Independent (1)

The Liberal Democrat Group have an overall majority of 2 seats on the Council.
