In England and Wales, secondary school is for children from the ages of 11 to 16 (18 if they remain for 6th Form). Secondary school incorporates Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 of the National Curriculum (or years 7 to Year 11 ) and can also include sixth form.
Ten-year-olds who enter secondary school from 2008 will be the first to have to stay in mandatory education until they are 18. It will be the first rise in the school leaving age since 1972, when it was raised to 16.

Education in St. Albans and District is managed by Hertfordshire County Council.
