Pet Shop Licence

A licence under the Pet Animals Act 1951 is required for retailers selling pet livestock, wholesalers stocking pet livestock, dealers in pet livestock, livestock importers and exporters, pet auctions, one day sales and any business offering domestic pets for sale. These conditions apply to all buildings and areas to which livestock have access and/or that are used in association with the sale of pet livestock. 

Licence Summary

Licences are valid for a year and must be re-applied for annually.  If you are a new applicant we would recommend that you email environmental@stalbans.gov.uk

Cost

The fees are set annually.  For the year 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011 the licence fee for a Pet Shop is £75.85.

No. It is in the public interest the St Albans District Council must process your application before a licence can be granted.  If you have not heard from us within a reasonable period, please contact us.  You can do this on-line if you applied through the UK Welcomes service or use the contact details above.
