Riding Establishment Licence

Stables that hire out horses or ponies for riding or instruction must be licensed under the Riding Establishments Act 1964 (as amended 1970) by the district in which they are situated. A current report from a veterinary surgeon or practitioner chosen by the district from the current List of Approved Riding Establishment Inspectors is a prerequisite of the grant of a licence.

Licence Summary

Licences are valid for a year and must be re-applied for annually.  If you are a new applicant we would recommend that you email at environmental@stalbans.gov.uk

Cost

The fees are set annually.  For the year 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011 the licence fee for a Riding Establishment is £225.

Will Tacit Consent Apply?

No. It is in the public interest the St Albans District Council must process your application before a licence can be granted.  If you have not heard from us within a reasonable period, please contact us.  You can do this on-line if you applied through the UK Welcomes service or use the contact details below.
