Land and premises

If you need to know who owns a piece of land or property in the district, Property Services is a good place to start. We maintain a record of property, owned or leased by the Council; this includes a collection of maps and legal records of properties that we have an interest in.

What we can do

We can quickly check to see whether a property is owned by us. If it is, then we can put you in touch with the department responsible for the property. If the property is owned by someone else, then the next place to try is the Land Registry, they hold national records of land ownership.

How to make an enquiry about land ownership

Researching our data is mostly a free service. To help us to assist, it is normally very helpful if you can have as much information about the property that you are interested in as possible. This is especially true for pieces of land that may not have a recognisable address.

Ideally we require an exact address to include property name or number, road or street name, locality/village and postal town. A sketch plan of the location of the property is also equally useful. Having this kind of detail will make it easier and quicker to respond to your enquiry.

Contaminated land

Contaminated land is a material planning consideration, meaning any land passing though this process should not pose a future threat to the health of occupiers.
