Government policy, as laid down in Planning Policy Guidance Note 12 (Development Plans), acknowledges the valuable role that Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) can play in supplementing the policies and proposals of the Development Plan. Government advice also indicates that SPGs may be taken into account as a material consideration in the assessment of development proposals.
