  • Display the no-smoking symbol, at least 70mm in diameter

  • Display the following wording: "NO SMOKING. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO SMOKE IN THESE PREMISES"

  • You can change the last two words ie "THESE PREMISES" provided that they refer to the name or type of your particular premises to which the sign relates eg 'THIS HOTEL'

Signs for smokefree vehicles

Smokefree signs for vehicles.

Smokefree vehicles are required to display the no-smoking symbol, which must be a minimum of 70mm in diameter and be displayed in every compartment in which people travel.

The new law requires certain vehicles to be smokefree; this includes work vehicles and all forms of public transport such as buses and coaches, taxis and private hire vehicles.

Work vehicles must be smokefree if they are used by more than one person in the course of any paid or voluntary work, regardless of whether they are in the vehicle at the same time or not.

Public service vehicles are similar e.g. if a person smokes in a taxi not only can the person smoking receive a fine but also the driver for allowing the offence to take place.

Vehicles that are primarily used for private purposes are not be covered by the legislation
