The Housing service owns and manages garages on a number of sites and rents these out to private residents as well as to council tenants.
Where are the garages situated?
We have a number of different garage sites spread across the District. Please see the list below for details of their locations.
How much do they cost?
The weekly rental charge for a garage will be:
Counci Tenants £8.42
Private Tenants £9.89
Leashold Tenants £8.42
Council tenants and (in some circumstances) council leaseholders do not pay VAT but private residents should pay VAT. At present the weekly VAT charged is £1.47.
Rent is charged over 50 weeks with a two week rent free period in December.
Rent is paid weekly, one week in advance. We advise that you make monthly payments via direct debit. The applications can be downloaded via the link located at the bottom of this page
How can I pay?
You can pay in person at the Civic Centre, however, you cannot pay in cash at the Civic Centre.
If you wish to pay in cash you will need to take your payment card to a post office and pay over the counter.
By cheque, writing your garage address and tenancy number on the back. This can be posted to us bor handed in to us.
Debit/credit card over the phone via the automated payment service - 01727 862956.
Please press the * key and then follow Option 2 remembering to quote your 8 digit reference number.
Please note that if your reference number is 6 digits, place 00 in front of the reference number and if your reference number is 7 digits, place 0 in front of your reference number.
How can I apply for a garage?
You can apply for a garage by joining the garage waiting list. You can pick on of these up from Housing Reception or by ringing us and requesting one to be sent to you. Alternatively you can print off the application form below, complete it and return it to the Council Offices. Your name will then be added to the waiting list and when a garage become suitable for you, a letter will be sent offering you a garage. You do not have to accept any garage you are offered and you will be put back on the waiting list.
Alternatively you are able to ring us to find out if we have any garages vacant that no one requires on the waiting list.
Please note council tenants and wherever possible, residents living in the vicinity of any garage site, will be given priority during the offering process.
NOTE: If you are a Council Tenant and your rent account is in arrears, you will not be considered for a garage.
GARAGES WILL BE LET FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF VEHICLE STORAGE ONLY

What do I do when I no longer wish to continue renting a council garage?
You need to return the keys to Housing Reception and fill in a termination form. Alternatively you can request a termination form from us and this will be sent to you.
You can also print off the form below, complete it and return it to us with the keys attached in person. Please note, all tenancies are terminated from a Sunday and your tenancy will be accepted to expire when the keys are returned to the Housing department at the Civic Centre.
Please note that you must not send the keys back in the post.

What should I do if I have a repair that needs to be carried out to my garage?
