OUT OF HOURS EMERGENCIES - Telephone (01727) 811155

A Control Centre receives your requests for emergency repairs and reports to Council staff who are on 24 hour standby to deal with emergencies. If you think you have an emergency please be sure that the matter cannot wait until the next working day. Out of hours repairs are expensive and affect the amount of rent that all tenants pay. However we do not want to discourage the reporting of genuine emergencies.

The emergency repairs service covers those problems where there is an immediate risk to personal safety, and these are shown below.

  • No central heating: We will only attend during winter months (31st October - 1st May). If you are a senior citizen or disabled person and the problem is reported before 8pm we will try to attend that evening. Otherwise a heating engineer will attend within 24 hours. Please note that lack of hot water is NOT classed as an emergency.

  • No mains water: This will be attended to within 24 hours.

  • No electrical power or lighting: If you have no electrical power or lighting we will attend within 24 hours. You should have some form of emergency lighting available as candles should not be used.

  • Water flooding: All tenants should report water flooding as an emergency and a contractor will attend as soon as possible.

  • Structural damage: Usually caused by high winds or storm damage. Where there is a risk to health and safety of tenants and/or general public this will be dealt with as soon as possible.

  • No working toilet: This will be dealt with within 24 hrs where there is no second toilet in the property. The toilet can be cleared using a bucket of water.

  • Secure property following break in: This is dealt with as an emergency and could be rechargeable.

  • Access for lost keys/locked out: We will only attend for senior citizens and the disabled. Details of local locksmith are provided.

  • Lift breakdown: This will be dealt with as an emergency repair.
