Bandstand Marathons are a national initiative aiming to fulfil one of the strands of the Cultural Olympiad to humanise public spaces through getting as many bands performing on as many bandstands, all at the same time, on the same day throughout the UK.
The event is now in it's 4th year and provides an opportunity to celebrate local amateur musical talent; reflecting the amateur athletes that will be participating in the london 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Historic bandstands that adorn local parks and town centres across the country will come to life and be used to showcase fantastic local talent.
