BREAKING NEWS - London 2012 Paralympic Flame Celebration Event to be HEADLINED BY CHART TOPPING ARTIST, TINCHY STRYDER!
On Saturday 25th August 2012, Verulamium Park in St Albans will come to life as St Albans City and District Council hosts the District's first Inclusive Sports Festival to welcome the Hertfordshire splinter of the Paralympic Flame. The Park will be used to create a stimulating environment where residents and visitors are able to take part in a variety of free sports and physical activities inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games, in one venue, on one day.
We can now confirm that MOBO Award winning, Tinchy Stryder, will be topping the entertainment bill (see below), supported by a number of fantastic artists from around the the district and beyond.
The park will be used to create a stimulating environment where residents and visitors are able to take part in a variety of free sports and fun activities in one venue, on one day.
Local sports clubs and organisations will host demonstrations and taster sessions showcasing sports inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games with the aim of inspiring and motivating people to get active and stay active. There will be a wide range of informal sports and physical activity sessions for the whole family to take part in and enjoy to a background of live music and entertainment throughout the day.
Event Format
11:15 - 12noon
Procession through St Peter's Street to Verulamium Park with the Hertfordshire splinter of the Paralympic Flame, carried by Flame Ambassador Gobi Ranganathan, the UK No 1 Wheelchair Badminton Player and supported by local school children, young people and community groups.
12noon - 12:15pm
Welcome Ceremony in Verulamium Park for the Hertfordshire splinter of the Paralympic Flame
12pm - 5pm
Sports activities, entertainment, live music and dance through the day
5pm - 9pm
Live music from local artists/musicians
