St Albans City & District Council and Watford Community Sports & Education Trust have developed the Onside St Albans project to deliver a range of initiatives which will help to engage and empower young people (males and females) aged 8-16 years to be both actively involved, and take responsibility for, projects in their local community.

The project will deliver a three year programme of activities across the district that includes:

Twilight Football

A two hour weekly twilight/evening football session at six sites across the district, to encourage young people off the streets and into weekly structured and supervised football sessions.

Alternative Leisure/Recreational Activities

A further two hour weekly session at five sites. These sessions will be developed in consultation with the young people and could include such activities as street dance, DJ workshops, boxercise, creative arts, self defence, yoga and gym workouts.

Coach Education

Coaching courses will be run that are aimed at participants involved in the programme who are 16 years of age and older. Priority will be given to those not currently in employment or on education training.

Inter-Estate Matches/Festivals

A number of inter-estate based matches will be organised which will provide opportunities for young people from areas/estates within the project to play against each other.
