St Albans City and District Council endorses the principle of the national Considerate Constructors Scheme and encourages builders and developers within the district to register with the initiative.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a national initiative, set up by the construction industry, to improve its image. The Scheme is open to construction companies of all types and size and for every construction activity. Many construction companies and clients automatically register all their sites.
The Scheme is concerned about any area of construction activity that may have a direct or indirect impact on the image of the industry as a whole. The main areas of concern fall into three main categories: the environment, the workforce and the general public.
All sites registered with the Scheme are monitored by their own experienced industry professionals to assess their performance against an eight point Code of Considerate Practice.
Code of Considerate Practice
Posters are displayed around the construction site setting out the Code and the name and contact number of the site manager and freephone number of the Scheme administration office should anyone wish to comment on the site or make a complaint.
The Scheme has designated staff, trained to deal with any type of complaint. When a complaint is received that falls within the Scheme’s remit, the site manager will be told what the complaint is about, and given the name and contact details of the complainant (with the complainant’s permission). The Scheme will stay in contact with the complainant for as long as necessary or until there is a satisfactory conclusion. If a registered site fails to deal with a problem in an effective manner or is in breach of the Code of Considerate Practice, the site may be removed from the Scheme.
The very best performing sites are recognised with Annual National Awards.
