  Becoming Smokefree. Are you prepared?

St Albans City and District Council's Environmental Health Officers are working with businesses to help them plan and prepare for the implementation of the national smokefree law on 1st July 2007.

Some businesses may be considering installing outside areas or shelters for smokers to use, even though they are under no obligation to do so. If this is the case then serious consideration must be given to all the associated issues such as design of shelters to ensure they comply, planning permission, smoking related litter and possible noise and light pollution to name but a few. The key issue is thorough planning and preparation. Further information can be accessed on the 'Smoking Shelters' section.

Businesses can register now to receive further information and support on going smoke free as well as detailed guidance so they are armed with all the information that is required to comply with the legislation.

To register businesses should contact the Smokefree England information line on 0800 169 1697 or register online at the www.smokefreeengland.gov.uk website.
