All letters that require a response should be replied to within fourteen days and in practice most will be responded to in less than that. Most housing staff are located in the Civic Centre but even those who work elsewhere have arrangements for receiving mail addressed to them at that office.

The Housing Department reception counter is in the Civic Centre and is open Monday to Thursday 8.45 am to 5 pm and Fridays 8.45 am - 4.30 pm. This reception counter will deal with all housing matters including tenancy matters, rents, repairs and rehousing. If your enquiry requires a detailed discussion private interview facilities are available. Unless you make a specific appointment in advance it may not be possible to see any particular member of staff but there will be someone available to see you.

You can contact the Housing Department on the normal Council number (01727) 866100. However, this will put you through to the Council switchboard and you may experience a slight delay while the switchboard operator puts you through to the correct extension. The following direct dial numbers will enable you to get straight through to the office you need with the minimum of delay.

The area code for St Albans is 01727 but you only need to use this if you are ringing from outside the St Albans telephone area.

If you have a fax available you may prefer to communicate with us by this means. This is the same number as the ansaphone but the machine can tell the difference between a fax and a voice message. If you have a manual fax just press your start button.
