The Homelessness Act 2002 requires that Local Housing Authorities [LHA's] review amongst other things:
- The current and future level of homelessness in their area
- Activities undertaken in their area to:
- Prevent homelessness
- Secure that accommodation is available to homeless people
- Provide support to homeless people
The aim is to make the prevention of homelessness a central activity. This means that we need to focus on helping clients to find the best solution to their housing problems before they become homeless.
The findings from our review must be set out in a Homelessness Strategy spanning a five year period. Our Strategy for 2008 - 2013 will set out our key aims and priorities in relation to preventing homelessness and ensuring that clients have a range of housing options available to them.
We are currently in the process of establishing a Project Board that will be responsible for steering the development of our new strategy. The Project Board will also be responsible for monitoring the Homelessness Strategy action plan.
