| The Housing Department are
able to offer internal decorations for those elderly tenants
who are not capable of doing the work themselves. It is not
possible to offer this service to all our elderly tenants
so to qualify tenants must meet the following criteria:-
- Over 60 years of age or disabled.
- Physically unable to do the work themselves.
- No other person living with you able to do the work on
your behalf.
In view of the extensive demand for this type of work the
internal decoration scheme allows for the decoration of one
room only. A further application can be made for a subsequent
room to be decorated after two years.
The decorating is carried out by a contractor appointed by
the Council who will have appropriate identification. It is
important that you ask to see this before allowing any workmen
into your property. Should you wish to have the walls of a
chosen room papered rather than emulsioned, then an allowance
of £15 per roll is made. If you wish to have more expensive
paper it will be necessary for you to pay the difference to
the contractor carrying out the work, who should always issue
a receipt for the money paid.
The Housing Department has a fixed budget every year in order
to carry out this work and it may not always be possible to
include everyone who applies on the current list. A Waiting
List is therefore held in date order of registration.
