Alternative arrangements are available for the disposal of bulky items of household waste at two household waste sites in the district. These are located at Ronsons Way, Sandridge, off St Albans Road AL1 4AP, Dark Lane off Grove Road, Harpenden AL5 1QB and Waterdale, St Albans Road nr Garston WD25 OPR. The opening hours of these two sites are as follows:

Ronsons Way: 1 April - 30 September 8am - 6pm 1 October - 31 March 8am - 4pm
Dark Lane 10am - 6pm Daily
Waterdale 8am - 6pm Daily

All sites are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

The service currently provides over 2000 collections per annum. The cost of this service is £23.50 (including VAT) for up to 6 items per collection. There is no longer an additional charge for the collection of white goods.

NB. Fridges and Freezer units, once collected, are dealt with separately, ie. they are taken away to have the CFC gasses removed prior to scrapping. If a unit is in good condition, however, it is reconditioned and resold.
