The refuse collection service is contracted to Enterprise until 2015, having been awarded a new 7 year contract commencing on the 4th February 2008.

The Contractors currently collect household refuse on a weekly basis from the 56750 properties in the district. They also collect some refuse from the Council Market. Normally the amount of household waste collected varies between 6-700 tonnes per week, but between Christmas and New Year this figure can be up to 900 tonnes.

All the household refuse is taken to the waste transfer station at Garston where it is transferred into bulk containers for delivery to landfill in Bedfordshire.

A supply of refuse sacks equating to 2 per week were issued in bulk in January in rolls. There are sufficient sacks to last until wheeled bins are provided in September 2008.
The refuse collection service is no longer “back door”. Residents will be expected to present their refuse at the boundary of their property on collection day by 7am.
Those residents who because of age or disability cannot carry their refuse to the boundary are asked to contact Client Services 01727 819285 (Environmental Services Department) to enquire about an assisted collection.
