The East of England Regional Assembly (EERA) has recently
published its draft strategy to guide the future planning
and development of the East of England region. St Albans City
and District Council is part of the East of England region.
The East of England Plan will provide a strategic framework
for the physical development of our District between 2001
and 2021. In particular the Plan currently states that the
number of dwellings to be built in St Albans District during
this period is 7,000. When the East of England Plan is adopted,
this Council will need to provide these dwellings through
the new Development Plan currently being prepared.
The period of public consultation runs until 16 March 2005.
As this is your only opportunity to comment on the Plan, your
Council would like to encourage you to participate and make
your views known to the Regional Assembly.
Further information on the proposals and a copy of the East
of England Plan can be obtained by visiting www.eera.gov.uk.
In addition, a website has been set up to help people living
in Hertfordshire to find out more about the East of England
Plan at www.speakuphertfordshire.org.uk
You can make your comments in the following ways:
- Online at the East of England Regional Assembly website
- Download the response form and return by email to planning@eera.gov.uk
- By post to the Panel Secretary c/o EERA (RSS) at Flempton
House, Flempton, Bury St Edmunds, IP28 6EG
- By fax to the Panel Secretary c/o EERA on 01284 729447
Your Council's response to the East of England Plan is currently
being prepared, and the report will be put to the Planning
Policy Advisory Panel on the 17th February. The
report will then go to the Full Council on the 23rd
February, for agreement before submission to EERA.
The East of England Plan will be tested at an Examination
in Public (EiP) starting in September 2005 in front of an
independent panel. The responses to the public consultation
will be used by the Panel to influence the key issues for
discussion and to decide who should participate in the EiP.
Therefore, the comments made during this public consultation
stage will be taken into account by the Panel in drawing up
its recommendations on the Plan.
After the Panel's report is submitted, the final version
of the East of England Plan will be prepared by the Office
of the Deputy Prime Minister in 2006. |
