Once you have received your “Household Enquiry Form”, the quickest and easiest way to respond is by completing the form online at: www.householdresponse.com/stalbans (you will need the security codes provided on your “Household Enquiry Form”).

Household Voter Registration Canvass

Towards the end of July 2019, each property in the district will receive a voter registration “Household Enquiry Form”. This form should be completed by residents to confirm their registration, inform us of any changes to their details and/or request that any new residents be added to the electoral register.

It is a legal requirement to provide the information requested. Responding to the form early can help save the council money because a reminder form won't need to be sent, and a canvasser won’t need to visit your property

The quickest and easiest way to respond is by completing the form online at: www.householdresponse.com/stalbans. If there are no changes to the information on the form, you can also respond via telephone or SMS text. Further details (including your security codes) can be found on the front page of your “Household Enquiry Form”. Alternatively, you can complete the paper form and send it back to us using the pre-paid envelope provided.

If you are not already registered to vote

If your name isn’t included on your property’s “Household Enquiry Form”, you are not currently registered and you won’t be able to vote.

Once you’ve completed your “Household Enquiry Form” to confirm who is resident at your address, you will also need to register individually. You can register individually by completing an online registration form at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or by completing and returning the paper “Individual Registration Form” that we will send to you.

Who can register to vote? Three important points.

• Residency – you must be resident at the property; e.g. you cannot register at a work address.
• Nationality – British, Irish, qualifying Commonwealth and qualifying European Union citizens are eligible to appear on the electoral register. 
• Age – you must be 16 years old or above to register to vote. Young people can register to vote when they turn 16, and can vote once they reach 18.

The revised register will be published on 1st December 2019. There will be two versions of the register – the electoral register and the open register. 

• The electoral register is used for electoral purposes, such as making sure only eligible people can vote. 
• The open register is available for marketing purposes and general sale. If you currently appear on the open register and would like your details removed, you can opt out of the open register by emailing elections@stalbans.gov.uk or by calling 01727 819294 (please provide your full name and address with your request). New residents can opt out of the open register when they complete their individual voter registration application.
