Extra parking for Christmas shoppers in Harpenden

Publication date:

Extra car parking has been arranged for Harpenden during one of the busiest weekends in the run-up to Christmas.

Visitors will be able to use a temporary car park with around 300 spaces at Rothamsted Research in West Common.

The site is on the edge of the town centre, only a few minutes' walk from the High Street.

It will be open from 9am to 6pm on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 December with a flat charge of £4 no matter the length of the stay.

St Albans City and District Council and Rothamsted Research have worked together to provide the extra capacity for the second consecutive year.

As part of the agreement, money raised from the venture will be donated to Mayor of Harpenden Councillor Rosemary Farmer’s two charities.

These are Harpenden Connect and Rennie Grove Hospice Care with information on them available here: www.harpenden.gov.uk/mayors-charities.

Councillor Beric Read, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Business and the Community, said: “We are pleased to have organised this extra parking in Harpenden for the second year in a row and thank Rothamsted Research for their co-operation.

“Car parks come under pressure over the festive season, so I have no doubt that  people will make use of the extra 300 spaces.”
