Using the planning applications search, you can:

  • search for a planning or tree works application
  • track its progress
  • view plans and any supporting documents
  • submit and view comments

Please note that this service may be unavailable on weekdays after 22.00 hours and between 23.00 on Saturday and 16.00 on Sunday due to system back-up procedures.

Commenting on an application

You can submit your comments online here, or by email to planningcomments@stalbans.gov.uk. Please supply your name and address, including postcode, so that we may log your comments.  Please note that your comments will be published on our website.  We will redact signatures and personal email addresses and telephone numbers only.

Searching, viewing plans and using the measuring tools

If you know the planning reference number, this is the easiest way to get to the application you wish to view.  When entering a postcode, please add the space ie AL1 3JE. For some more complicated addresses you will need to use the Advanced Search and a wild card.

To view the application details, click on the blue text, which is a hyperlink to the application.

Use the Documents tab to view plans and other documents.  If you are having problems viewing the documents, try using a different web browser as this issue may be the version of the browser you are using.  Your network connection or anti-virus software could also be an issue. Plans can also be viewed at the Council offices during normal opening hours.

For comparing plans, you can right click to open plans in a new tab/window.  The measuring tools can on the left-hand side can also be used.  Remember to set the correct scale indicated on the plans first.

Search on MapOur District Map Service is a map-based alternative way of viewing planning applications in the District.

Please note that the plans are copyright and may be viewed for inspection purposes only. You will infringe copyright if you print the images. While an application is Pending, St Albans District Council are able to supply copies of the plans from the District Council Offices at a cost of £3.00 for A4 size and £5.50 for A3 size and above, per copy. When the Application has been determined, Copyright reverts to the creator or owner of the original plans and St Albans District Council can no longer provide copies until 5 years after the decision date.
