Litter seems to have been on the rise over the past few years - it is a blight on our community and harmful to the environment.
Rubbish which is not put into a litter bin or pocket or which is thrown from a vehicle damages the area; clearing it is extremely labour intensive and expensive and even with the help of the districts lovely litter picking volunteers, there is still more than we can collect. St Albans and the surrounding towns and villages are beautiful areas and we are determined to make them litter free zones.
Fixed Penalty Notice fines for fly-tipping in St Albans District are to be increased to a maximum of £1,000.
A removals firm was ordered to pay more than £7,000 for illegally dumping the contents of a shop clearance on a country road.
Forty-one fines for fly-tipping have been issued by St Albans District and City Council’s enforcement team so far this year.
