Christmas Cracker event attracts thousands to St Albans City Centre

Publication date:

The St Albans Christmas Cracker – a fun-packed event that launches the District’s festive season – attracted thousands of people to the City Centre.

The annual street party took place on Sunday 19 November with St Peters Street closed to traffic.

Entertainment included live music, fairground rides, a Santa’s grotto, street performers, street theatre, sideshow games and around 100 market stalls selling hot food, drinks and seasonal gifts.

Much of the family-friendly fun was free with something to suit people of all ages and abilities.

Stunning festive decorations and installations, provided by St Albans BID, were illuminated throughout the event.

There was also a guest appearance from CBeebies and Discovery Plus star Maddie Moate who stars as Tinkerbell in this year’s Alban Arena pantomime, The All New Adventures of Peter Pan – The Pantomime Sequel.

Maddie, who hosts several TV shows including Maddie’s Do You Know, toured the event with St Albans Mayor, Councillor Anthony Rowlands, and Mayoress Annie Stevenson.

Chris Traill, Strategic Director for Community and Place Delivery, said:

It was fantastic that so many people turned out for this magical occasion.

The Christmas Cracker is our exciting way of launching the festive season and the response from our residents and visitors was outstanding. It was a hugely enjoyable occasion for all.

The event also gives a boost to our local economy – our shops, pubs and restaurants – by bringing many extra visitors to the City Centre.

Details of what else is happening in the District over the festive season is available on the Enjoy St Albans website.
