Consultation opens on draft Detailed Local Plan

Publication date:

The draft DLP is a set of planning policies and proposals that will help shape the future of St Albans District.

The draft DLP supports the draft Strategic Local Plan (SLP) which sets out the overarching policies, principles and spatial vision for the District up to 2031.

Prepared by St Albans City and District Council, the draft DLP contains detailed planning policies, maps and other documentation. Aspects covered include the location of Green Belt boundaries and the design and layout of potential development, including housing, industry, supporting infrastructure and amenities.

The documents contained in the draft DLP are available on the Council’s website at: www.stalbans.gov.uk/dlp (link content no longer available due to retirement of former website)  They are also available at libraries and District, Town and Parish Council offices.

Cllr Julian Daly, Leader of St Albans City and District Council, said: “This six-week consultation is your opportunity to have your say on the detailed documentation that supports the draft SLP. Please come along to one of the public exhibitions and also give your views on the draft DLP online.”

The District Council submitted the draft SLP to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in September. Planning Inspector, David Hogger, is now examining the draft SLP. He held an initial hearing on 26 October.

The draft SLP covers the period to 2031. It identifies a need for an average of 450 homes to be built annually and where the housing development may take place, including four sites that are currently in the Green Belt. The sites are East of Hemel Hempstead (North), East of Hemel Hempstead (South), East of St Albans, and North West of Harpenden. The draft DLP confirms the proposed boundaries for these four sites.
