Mayor to open St Albans Museum + Gallery on June 8
29 May – Mayor attends 100th birthday celebrations
A bouquet of flowers was presented by the Mayor to Marie Hall, who celebrated her 100th birthday at Dorant House on Tuesday 29 May. Mrs Hall has lived most of her life in St Albans and moved nine years ago to the sheltered housing run by the Charity of LA Dorant for Almshouses.

8 June – Mayor to open St Albans Museum + Gallery at 10am
The Mayor will be cutting a ribbon to open the new £7.75m St Albans Museum + Gallery. She will be accompanied by children from a host of schools across the District. The ribbon-cutting ceremony launches a celebratory opening weekend of lively activities and events for this landmark cultural attraction, housed in the restored old Town Hall in St Peter’s Street. Visitors this weekend will be the first to step inside to see the new exhibitions, art installations and restored historic spaces. There will also be musical performances, face-painting, object handling, trails and other activities throughout this opening weekend. The Mayor says: “I am delighted to open the doors to the fabulous new St Albans Museum + Gallery. It is set to become a great visitor attraction with special exhibitions that are sure to bring people from the across the south east to our wonderful historic City.”
9 June – Mayor to open St Peter’s Church Summer Fair
A jazz band, stalls and a host of activities will entertain the crowds at the annual St Peter’s Church Summer Fair that will be opened by the Mayor on Saturday 9 June at 11am. The event is organised by the Friends of St Peter's and will be held in the Churchyard from 10.30am-3.30pm.
10 June – Mayor to launch St Albans Half Marathon from 8am
Runners at the 37th St Albans Half Marathon will be cheered on by the Mayor when she attends the community event in Verulamium Park on 10 June. Cllr Farmer will be present from 8am to start the Half Marathon, Walking Half Marathon, Wheelchair Race and Fun Run. The annual event is expected to attract over 7,000 participants across all races. 13 June – Mayor to meet charities at Community Fair, Alban Arena
Volunteers from over 45 local charities and voluntary groups will be greeted by the Mayor at St Albans’ first Community Fair. The event is being organised by Community Central to bring potential volunteers and donors together with local groups and charities that support vulnerable people in the District. The Mayor says: “Serving and caring for all in our community is the theme for my mayoral year. I welcome this brilliant initiative. It aims to match potential volunteers and donors with local voluntary groups dedicated to providing much-needed support to people who are vulnerable or feel excluded from society. If you have any spare time and are interested in volunteering, then come along to the Community Fair to find out how you can help.” The event is being held in the Alban Arena from 9.30am to 5pm. The Mayor will be present from 1pm to 2pm.
15 June – Mayor supports Mind in Mid Herts’ new Blue Light programme
The Mayor is backing Mind in Mid Herts’s scheme to provide mental health support to front line staff and volunteers working for the emergency services locally. Mind in Mid Herts is launching this brand new service on Friday 15 June. The Mayor who has chosen to support Mind in Mid Herts during her year in office, says: “This great initiative aims to ensure that people who have suffered a trauma while carrying out essential work for the emergency services receive the mental health support they need.” For more information please see their website www.mindinmidherts.org.uk or email bluelight@mindinmidherts.org.uk . The launch event will be held at the offices of St Albans City and District Council from 12.30 to 2.30pm. The initiative is part of Mind’s national Blue Light Programme.

16 June – Mayor celebrates 1st London Colney Scout Group’s centenary
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders will be taking part in a host of activities to celebrate the 1st London Colney Scout Group centenary on 16 June. The Mayor will join the celebrations at the Scout headquarters at Chicken Lane, London Colney at 3.30pm in time for award presentations. The Mayor says: “I congratulate the 1st London Colney Scout Group on reaching its centenary and for providing scouting activities for young people for the last 100 years.”
23 June – Mayor to join the Alban Pilgrimage procession
Giant puppets will be used to dramatise the story of Britain’s first Christian Martyr Alban during The Alban Pilgrimage procession. The Mayor will join the procession along with hundreds of children, young people and adults as it makes its way through St Albans’s City centre to St Albans Cathedral. The procession starts at 11am at St Peter’s Church and then moves along St Peter’s Street before going down Chequer Street, High Street and George Street to the West end of the cathedral. Everyone is welcome to attend and join the procession.
