Mayor's Pride Awards Nominations
Residents are urged to nominate exceptional people and outstanding organisations for the St Albans Mayor’s Pride Awards.
This hugely-popular, annual event is intended to recognise the achievements of the District’s unsung community heroes.
These are the individuals, groups and businesses that do extraordinary and mainly voluntary work for the benefit of others.
The categories for the 2019 awards, sponsored by the construction and regeneration group Morgan Sindall, are:
- Community Champion of the Year: someone who has given up their spare time and gone out of their way to help.
- Cultural Innovation Award: creative people or groups with ideas or achievements that have inspired others.
- Young Person of Distinction: an exceptional child or young person renowned for their talent, positivity, energy or strength of character.
- Community Project of the Year: a project that has made a real difference to local people.
- Community Orientated Business of the Year: a business working with the public or voluntary sectors on initiatives to benefit the community.
- Environmental Champion of the Year: a group or individual committed to improving the local environment.
- Voluntary Sector Award: a group or individual that has shown exceptional zeal.
- Inclusive Communities Award: an initiative that unites people of different ethnic, faith or socio-economic backgrounds.

I am delighted to be honouring all these fabulous people and groups that do so much selfless work for others.
The Pride Awards are a great chance for people to show their appreciation of all the voluntary work that goes on behind the scenes to make our District a more inclusive, caring and vibrant community.
I’m looking forward to hearing all the amazing stories that will come to light during these awards, and I urge people to nominate those who have impressed and inspired them over the past year.
To put forward a name for an award category, complete a form online at: www.stalbans.gov.uk/mayorsprideawards. The deadline is 5pm on Thursday 31 January.
People can make as many nominations as they wish and put forward the name of organisations that they work for.
Short-listed finalists will be unveiled next month and invited to a special celebratory evening with the Mayor in March when the winners will be revealed.
A special Mayor’s Recognition Award will also be presented to a person or group that has made a significant impression on the Mayor during her year of office.
