£82,000 makeover for Foxcroft Park playground

Publication date:

Pupils from Cunningham Hill Infant School joined St Albans Deputy Mayor last week to formally open the new-look playground at Foxcroft Park, following a major makeover.

The 20 children had great fun playing on the new equipment that has been installed as part of an £82,000 revamp of the playground.

Old play equipment has been removed and replaced with eight new pieces, including a multi-play climbing unit, with two slides, ramps and bridges. There is also a basket swing, easy-access roundabout, see-saw, springy turtle, toddler slide, toddler swings and a set of normal swings.

In addition, new metal fencing has also been installed in place of an old wire mesh fence.

The project was managed by Foxcroft Park owners St Albans City and District Council, with support from a steering group made up members of local residents’ groups.

The revamp was funded using  £42,500 in Section 106 planning contributions from property developers and a grant of £39,500 from Veolia.

At the opening, two pupils stepped in to help the Deputy cut a ribbon at the gate to the play area.

The Deputy Mayor of St Albans City and District, Cllr Jamie Day, said:

The makeover of this popular playground has resulted in a wonderful area for children to play and have fun. I want to thank the children from Cunningham Hill Infant School for helping me formally open this fantastic playground. They are obviously delighted with the revamp as they couldn’t wait to play on the various pieces of new equipment.

Local councillors and members of the steering group were also present at the opening.
