Radio-controlled boats and trucks, a flight simulator, drones, a giant Scalextric track and Meccano models were among the many attractions at St Albans Model Show last weekend.

Organised by St Albans and District Model Engineering Society, the two-day event at Townsend School in High Oaks drew a record crowd of 1,746 people. Among them was the Mayor of the City and District of St Albans, who had great fun looking at the many models on display.

The annual show is aimed at young people who had the opportunity to play with radio-controlled trucks and diggers and to fly aeroplanes they made out polystyrene. They also sailed boats on a boating lake, drove cars round a large track made out of Scalextric and rode on a miniature model steam train.

The Mayor, Councillor Mohammad Iqbal Zia, who was joined at the event by his son, said: “We had a wonderful time at this fantastic interactive model engineering show, aimed at inspiring young people. We marvelled at the amazing models on display created by model-engineering enthusiasts. I want to thank St Albans and District Model Engineering Society for organising the show and demonstrating the wonders of engineering to young people.”

The show was put on by St Albans and District Model Engineering Society with the help of ten visiting clubs and societies.
